Burg and Brock

Beverly Hills Personal Injury Attorneys

Beverly Hills Personal Injury Lawyer

If another person’s or a company’s conduct causes a serious injury in Beverly Hills, Burg & Brock can investigate how it happened, identify who may be legally responsible, preserve evidence while it still exists and document what the injury has cost.

Beverly Hills is its own incorporated city rather than part of Los Angeles, which shapes which agency responds to an incident and which records exist afterwards.

Do I Have a Personal Injury Claim in Beverly Hills?

Being hurt is not by itself a claim. Four things generally have to line up: someone owed you a legal responsibility, they fell short of it, that failure caused your injury, and the injury produced losses the law recognises.

Who that someone is depends on the facts. It may be a driver, a property owner, a business, a contractor, a manufacturer or a public entity, and sometimes more than one at once. Getting that right early matters, because it decides who the claim is against.

You do not need to have worked any of this out before you call. Most people who contact a firm are not certain whether what happened to them counts, and that uncertainty is normal rather than a reason to wait.

What must be shown

01

Legal responsibility

That the other party owed you a duty to act with reasonable care.

02

A failure to meet it

Something done, or not done, that fell short of that duty.

03

Causation

That the failure produced the injury, rather than something unrelated.

04

Losses the law recognises

Treatment, income, or the effect on what you are able to do.

These elements are not identical in every type of claim, and how each is proved depends on the facts.

Personal Injury Cases in Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills is an incorporated city in Los Angeles County, not a district of Los Angeles. That distinction has a practical consequence people are often surprised by: it has its own police department, and an incident inside the city limits is generally handled by the Beverly Hills Police Department rather than the LAPD.

That decides where the report lives afterwards. The city publishes how to request a traffic collision report, and its records and traffic bureaus are listed separately on the city’s own site. Requesting from the wrong agency is one of the more common ways people lose several weeks at the start of a claim.

The city is also densely built and heavily visited, so a large share of injuries here happen somewhere other than a roadway — in shops, restaurants, hotels, garages and residential buildings, where there is often no police report at all and the useful evidence is whatever the business recorded.

Location can change
what evidence exists.

You do not need any of this to call. Bring what you have. Obtaining the rest is part of the work, and it is not something you are expected to assemble on your own while injured.

Camera systems overwrite. Memories blur. A damaged vehicle gets repaired or sold. None of that stops a claim being built later — it just means there is less left to find, which is the practical reason to ask early.

What to ask for, and who holds it

01

The report

Held by the agency that attended. Inside the city limits that is generally the Beverly Hills Police Department.

02

Business or building footage

Held by the business, the property manager or the security company — not by any public body, and not indefinitely.

03

Dashcam and doorbell video

Held by whoever recorded it: another driver, a resident, a neighbouring business.

04

What you already hold

Photographs, messages, names taken at the scene and the first medical notes. Usually the easiest evidence to lose track of.

If you do not know which agency attended, that is something we can establish.

Why the Exact Location of an Injury Can Matter

Where something happened decides what can be recovered later: a police report, footage from a nearby business, a private camera, dashcam video, witness details, the condition of the roadway or property, and photographs taken at the time.

None of that is guaranteed to exist, and we will not pretend to know which cameras face a particular corner. Some systems overwrite footage automatically, so anything relevant is better identified early.

  • Police or Highway Patrol report
  • Business surveillance
  • Private and doorbell cameras
  • Dashcam footage
  • Witness accounts
  • Vehicle or property damage
  • Road, floor or premises condition
  • Photographs and video

Who Can Be Responsible for a Beverly Hills Injury?

Depending on the facts any of these may be responsible, sometimes more than one. Appearing here does not make a party liable in a given case.

A driver

Where their driving caused or contributed to it.

A vehicle owner

Where the vehicle belonged to someone else.

An employer or business

Where a vehicle or worker was engaged in the work of the business.

A property owner

Where the condition of the property played a part.

A tenant or operator

Where control of the premises sat with someone other than the owner.

A contractor

Where work on site created the hazard.

A manufacturer

Where a defect is supported by evidence.

A public entity

Where a road or property condition is legally attributable to one.

An animal’s owner

California treats dog bite responsibility differently from most claims.

What Compensation May Be Available?

Medical expenses

Future medical care

Lost earnings

Reduced earning capacity

Pain and suffering

Property damage

Other supported losses

What can be claimed depends on the facts and the law that applies. The list is the categories that usually come up, not a menu and not a prediction.

Some of these are proved with paperwork — bills, payslips, tax records. Others, like the effect on what you are able to do, are not reducible to a receipt and have to be evidenced differently.

A wrongful death claim is measured differently from an injured person’s own claim, and the people entitled to bring one are defined by statute. If a death is involved, that is a conversation to have directly rather than from a page.

No responsible case value can be worked out from a location or a diagnosis alone.

How Much Is a Beverly Hills Injury Case Worth?

It depends on who is responsible and whether that is disputed, any share of fault attributed to you, the severity of the injury, treatment already had and care still ahead, income lost, any effect on earning capacity, the insurance and assets actually available, and how well the evidence stands up.

Anyone who gives you a figure before those are known is guessing, and a guess is worth nothing to you. What a firm can tell you early is which of those questions look straightforward and which look contested.

What Should I Do After an Injury in Beverly Hills?

General guidance, not a checklist you have to complete before contacting anyone.

Get appropriate medical care, and say what hurts rather than playing it down.
Report the incident where it is appropriate to do so.
Ask a business for a copy of its incident report before you leave.
Photograph the scene and the condition that caused it, if it is safe.
Take names and numbers of witnesses while they are still there.
Ask about footage early, since some systems overwrite it automatically.
Keep medical and employment records as they arrive.
Be careful about recorded statements before you have advice.

How Burg & Brock Builds a Beverly Hills Injury Case

Five stages, in the order they happen.

01

Free consultation

What happened, what injuries, and what has already been said to an insurer.

02

Investigation and evidence

Reports, footage, witnesses and records, gathered while they still exist.

03

Evaluating the losses

Treatment had, care still ahead, income affected, and what cannot be measured in receipts.

04

Negotiation

Presenting the claim to the insurers involved and answering what they dispute.

05

Litigation where appropriate

Filing suit where a claim cannot be resolved on acceptable terms. Whether a case resolves or is tried depends on its facts.

How Long Do I Have?

2 years*

California Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1 sets two years for an action for injury to, or the death of, an individual caused by the wrongful act or neglect of another.

The asterisk is doing real work. That period is not the only clock that can apply to an injury, and several situations run on different timing.

Where a public entity may be involved, Government Code section 911.2 requires a claim for death or injury to a person to be presented not later than six months after the cause of action accrues. That is substantially shorter than two years and applies before any lawsuit is filed. If a city, a transit body, a school district or another public entity might be responsible, get advice sooner rather than later.

Other situations that can follow different timing include injuries to minors, injuries not discovered until later, and medical malpractice. Which rule applies to a particular injury is a question about that injury’s facts, and it is one of the first things worth asking rather than assuming.

Attorneys at the Law Offices of Burg & Brock

Working With Burg & Brock

The firm handles injury claims on a contingency fee. In plain terms the attorney’s fee is a share of a recovery rather than an hourly bill, and if there is no recovery there is no attorney’s fee.

Fees and case costs are two different things, and it is worth being clear about that before signing anything. Costs are the expenses of running a case — obtaining records, filing fees, expert work. Ask how costs are handled if a case does not resolve, and ask for it in writing.

  • ConsultationFree, and no obligation afterwards
  • Attorney feesContingent on a recovery
  • Case costsSeparate from fees — ask how they are treated
  • VisitingNot required; a case can start by phone

Beverly Hills Personal Injury FAQs

How do I know whether I have a claim?

Generally it comes down to whether someone else’s failure to take reasonable care caused an injury that cost you something. You do not have to work that out yourself; describing what happened is usually enough for a first conversation.

What does hiring the firm cost?

Injury claims are handled on a contingency fee, so the attorney’s fee comes out of a recovery rather than up front, and there is no attorney’s fee without one. Case costs are separate from fees — ask how those are treated before you sign.

What happens if I was partly responsible?

California reduces a recovery by your share of responsibility rather than ending the claim. How that share is decided depends on the evidence, and an insurer’s early view of it is not the final word.

What deadlines should I ask about?

Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1 sets two years for an injury action, but that is not the only clock. Where a public entity may be responsible, Government Code section 911.2 requires a claim within six months. Injuries to minors, injuries discovered later and medical malpractice can follow different timing.

Can I contact the firm without a report?

Yes. Not having a report is common, particularly after a fall on private property where no police attended. Obtaining it is part of the work.

What should I bring to a consultation?

Whatever you already have: a report number, letters from an insurer, photographs, and where you were treated. If you have none of it, the conversation is still worth having.

Do I need to visit an office?

No. An initial conversation can happen by phone and a case can be handled without you travelling. Visiting details are on the Beverly Hills office page.

What affects how long a claim takes?

Mostly the medical picture. A claim is difficult to value while treatment is ongoing and the full extent of an injury is still unclear. Disputed fault and multiple insurers also add time. Nobody can tell you a date at the outset.

Can the firm help if I was only visiting Beverly Hills?

Yes. Where you live does not decide whether a claim can be pursued or where it is brought.
