In Los Angeles and across Los Angeles County, motorcycle accidents happen very often, and the numbers are high compared to other areas. Official traffic data shows that the county
sees thousands of motorcycle accidents every year. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, Los Angeles County recorded
3,258 motorcycle crashes involving injuries or deaths in 2022 alone. Los Angeles has unique challenges that increase these numbers.
The city has very heavy traffic, crowded highways, and many daily commuters. Roads like the 405, I-10, and other major freeways are often packed, which makes it harder for drivers to notice motorcycles. At the same time, California allows lane splitting, which means motorcycles can move between cars.
While legal, it can still be risky when drivers are not paying attention. Another challenge is that people ride motorcycles all year round in Southern California because of the warm weather. This means more motorcycles are on the road every day, which increases the chances of accidents happening more often.
